  The picture is a bit too bright.
  But - the sun is my friend, and also my enemy.
  I would say that the orange, pantile, roofs, of the houses on these coastal settlements , in east Yorkshire - are quite distinctive, and unusual.
  I think the orange, earthenware, pantiles were introduced from the Netherlands, across the north Sea, centuries ago.

A village can be built anywhere. And it will, as long, as people want to live at such a place with its natural difficulties.

  Actually - Whitby is a small town of about 14,000 people.It is a small port on the River Esk. The town is noted for a few things.
  The Synod of Whitby held in AD 664 at the original Abbey building on the top of the hill.
  The explorer/navigator - james Cook - who initiated British rule in australia and new zealand was a boy here.
  Bram Stoker - the author of Dracula - visited the town - and the town features in the novel.
  Because of this connection - the town has a Goth Festival - every two years, i think - where many visitors come dressed in Goth attire. (Goth = vampires/zombies et cetera).
