Thanx for your comment. I think that we're partially attracted by decadence because we somehow think that with a nice picture we are able to give back some of the lost dignity to the subject. Besides, beauty and deterioration are contrasts. And contrasts always inspire any sort of art :-) I'd be curious to read the books you mentioned!
