Yes I agree that there is a lost of quality when using the tube and converter together , but magnification is just great...
Shooting from Tripod, Hi Speed , as ISO required to get reasonable quality .....Anyway trying out is also fun...
Did you ever tried the reversed lens setup......?

you caught me in the act -
the photo-file was rotated a couple degrees clockwise
for a more balance picture
long!! after the youngster
landed the cf-18 gracefully enough
to go unnoticed ;-))
fighters are my favourite birds
