Epirus

Epirus (Greek: Ήπειρος, Ípiros), is a periphery in northwestern Greece. It borders the peripheries of West Macedonia and Thessaly to the east, Stereá Elláda (Central Greece) to the south, the Ionian Sea and the Ionian Islands to the west and Albania to the north. It is part of the wider historical region of Epirus, which overlaps modern Albania and Greece but now mostly lies in Greek territory.

Epirus (Griechisch: Ήπειρος, Ípiros, bedeutet auf Deutsch: Festland) ist eine Landschaft und Verwaltungsregion im Nordwesten Griechenlands. Sie grenzt im Süden an den Ambrakischen Golf und die Region Ätolien-Akarnanien (Ätoloakarnanien), im Osten an Thessalien und Makedonien, von denen es durch das Pindosgebirge getrennt wird. Im Norden hat Epirus eine gemeinsame Grenze mit Albanien, im Westen bildet die Küste des Ionischen Meeres die Grenze. Hauptstadt ist seit dem Mittelalter Ioannina.
