Martin PfeilThe los Glaciares N.P. (Spanish Parque Nacional los Glaciares = „the glaciers “) lies in the Argentina part of Patagonia (province Santa Cruz). It covers a surface of 4459 km ² and was set on the list of world natural heritage by the UNESCO 1981
The national park essentially consists beside some smaller glaciers of the three large glaciers Perito Moreno glaciers, Upsala glaciers and Viedma glaciers. These flow into two lakes, the Lago Argentino and the Lago Viedma, which however only lies partly within the national park. At the Upsala arm of the Lago Argentino is the Bahía Onelli.
In the northern part of the park are the granite mountains Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, which for mountain climbers and Trekking tourists are from interest.
Glaciares is most visited by international tourists. Starting point at the Lago Argentino is the town El Calafate as well as the still young village El Chaltén.
Der Nationalpark Los Glaciares (spanisch Parque Nacional Los Glaciares = „die Gletscher“) liegt im argentinischen Teil Patagoniens (Provinz Santa Cruz). Er bedeckt eine Fläche von 4459 km² und wurde von der UNESCO 1981 in die Welterbeliste aufgenommen.
Der Nationalpark besteht neben einigen kleineren Gletschern im Wesentlichen aus den drei großen Gletschern Perito-Moreno-Gletscher, Upsala-Gletscher und Viedma-Gletscher. Diese münden in zwei Seen, dem Lago Argentino und dem Lago Viedma, die jedoch nur teilweise innerhalb des Nationalparks liegen. Am Upsala Arm des Lago Argentino liegt die Bahía Onelli.
Im Nordteil des Parks befinden sich die Granitberge Cerro Fitz Roy und Cerro Torre, welche für Bergsteiger und Trekking-Touristen von Interesse sind.
Los Glaciares wird stark von internationalen Touristen besucht. Ausgangspunkt ist die am Lago Argentino gelegene Kleinstadt El Calafate sowie das noch junge Dorf El Chaltén.
