1984 - DomRep #2

At that time the Dominican Republic was not like today - a Caribbean island with many " All- Inclusive" vacation resorts. As far as I realized, there was only one larger golf resort for Americans, surrounded by a tall wall and far away from normal life. The dominican people I met were proud of their land, being aware that life was not so easy as this beautiful sunny Caribbean land may seem. Although many were struggling, here I met the most happy people with the greatest heart.

I like the mood of this image a lot, Berthold ... mom and child holding lovingly on to each other, both protected from the sun under the umbrella, a bit of a bleak background .... a fine black and white presentation !!!
    greetings, Adele

love the poetry and charisma of this shot! the somewhat languid sensual stride, the little girl peeking out the protective shade of the umbrella and across her mother's shoulder, the intense light – all so instantly likable! and capturing exactly the mood you describe in your caption! greetings, sabine.
