Since the very ancient times, Nafplio was one of the strongest naval bases in the Mediterranean Sea and always a desired occupational site for seafighting preparatios first for the Byzantines and then for Venecians and Ottomans till Greece was declared Independent state(1828) and became its first capital.Acronafplia is a peninsula extending in the sea and which represented the city's most fortified part along the centuries.

    a long land tongue reaching into the water - then used by defending armies, now seemingly a touristy place .... beautiful the view from here and the sparkling water ... fine black and white presentation !!
