Annapolis No.13 - Along Duke of Gloucester Street
The rich earth-toned textures of old brick and the harmonizing deep blues of shutters, door, and sky
in the crisp late winter sunshine provided an inviting motif while shooting in the Historic District of Annapolis.
It was a test outing for my then-“new” Canon Canonet QL17 GIII camera on this late March afternoon.
The camera’s 40mm f/1.7 lens was transmitting what it saw to a roll of Ektachrome EPR-64 slide film
loaded in my newly acquired little ‘70s vintage gem of a compact rangefinder camera.
The calendar may have said early spring – it was March 29 – but the trees – and sunlight - definitely said “winter,”
and I loved the well defined shadows that the trees were casting on walls and sidewalks as I explored along
Duke of Gloucester Street. In the foreground is the inviting Georgian House bed and breakfast, which occupies a handsome pre-Revolutionary home built in 1746.
