Bingo !

While walking along the shores of my favourite lake, this guy was proudly showing his 17 kg weighing catch of a Mirror Carp (still alive)

The Mirror Carp is a freshwater fish living in lakes and large rivers in Europe and Asia.
The wild populations of this species are considered vulnerable to extinction !

2 typical aspects of the Mirror Carp are the absence of a stomach (!) and the lack of scales. This lack of scales is widely believed to have been bred in by medieval monks in order to make the fish easier to prepare for the table.

Dutch name : Spiegelkarper
German name : Spiegelkarpfen
Latin name : Cyprinus carpio

After a while, the carp got its freedom back and was released into the lake again by the fisherman.

Location : Nature reserve ‘Walenhoek’ at Niel (Belgium)

In the picture below you can see the lake where this Mirror Carp was caught.

: )))))))))) i had forgotten all about it! how could i?! it's such a giant! i think the ones that "star" in my images aren't even half as big. this one must have already been a senior – king of the pond maybe – when he got caught and shown the land for a while. since they gave him back his freedom, he may have grown even more. read somewhere that fish, like crocodiles, never stop growing until the day they die… may the king of the pond live another hundred years and tell his many grandchildren the story about that one seminal day he looked a human in the eye and wasn't even scared… ; )) greetings, sabine.

Wow that's what I call a fish. Nice that he can go on living, but always wondering what sense it makes to catch a fish without the intention of eating it...
