cafe Florian

Venezia Piazza di San Marco cafe Florian
Since 1700. Class combined with history....
Goethe, Casanova, Goldoni, Lord Byron, Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Guy de Maupassin, Gertrude Stein, Stendal, Charles Dickens, Richard Wagner, Antonio Canova, Robert Brauning... and many other distinguished personalities frequented the famous "Salla degli uomini illustri". The only cafe in Italy that allowed women.. Sipping his coffee in this cafe, Stendal was informed of Napoleon's defeat in Waterllo..
Luchino Visconti also arranged plans for his masterpiece "Death in Venice" here.
Coffee didn't taste here a lot different though....

The Florian is looking a little run down now, but what a history it boasts.

    :))

a great and famous cafe .... and a great shot with these fine reflections .... fine old and elaborate architecture sadly "falling apart" at the edges - it spells nostalgia for me !!!
    greetings, Adele
