Castle ruins 'Montaigle' at Falaën (Belgium)

'Montaigle' was erected as a mighty castle in the 14th century on top of a rocky spur overlooking a green valley.

But 1554 meant the end of the castle when the French army besieged the stronghold and destroyed it completely.
Since then the ruins were used as a quarry by local farmers.

In the 19th century, some restorations were started but the castle was never rebuilt.

The house beneath the rocks is a private home. What a great place to live....... :-))

Dear Mark, I love such ruins. Take a look at the left side, you can see a ruin like a face. The windows are the eyes. In my fantasy it is the face of a laughing frog.

Hier hat man wirklich den Eindruck, die Burgruine ist fest mit dem Felsen verwachsen. Ein herrliches Motiv, sehr gut präsentiert.
