La Traviata
Hat for the costume worn by miss Violetta Valéry, the protagonist of the
opera by Verdi, La Traviata. Premier at Teatro La Fenice in Venezia in 1853.
The story is based on the drama by Alexandre Dumas, son, ‘La Dame aux camélias’, The Lady of the Camellias.
The posters by Alfons Mucha of Sarah Bernhardt are better known than the story, some say.
