here i have to discuss a lil bit more...
i do like the format, but think it could need a lil bit more cropping at the top.
very cool is the diagonal line of the fur!
the colours are neither soft enough nor they do have enough power for me... the picture has a shimmer of grey - i cand find a white point....
(i think it would be a cool enhancement to give it a lil photoshopmakeover by making two copies of the layerbackground and setting the 1st copy to the modus "lighten" and the second layer either to the modus "soft light" or "hard light" and experimenting with the fill of the layers by composing the both copies to a layer-set)
too the eyes are a lil bit dark. the light should be set a lil bit lower, so that the shadow of the hair in the right side not crossing the whites of the eye.
the nose need a lil bit powder or even too some retouching with ps.
i recommend a book by kathrin eismann for you calling: "photoshop - restauration and retouching". its not cheap, but it has some wonderful tipps for beauty-retouching on high-niveau...

I work with photoshop ( i'm designer http://www.uadesign.de) but only when made photo for printing.
For web i upload most not handling photo.
I agree with your criticism.
