The Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family ( Catalan : Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família ), known simply as the Sagrada Familia , is a Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona , Spain , designed by architect Antoni Gaudí . Begun in 1882, it is still under construction. It is Gaudí's masterpiece and the greatest exponent of Catalan modernist architecture . It is the most visited monument in Spain, and is the most visited church in Europe after St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican . When completed , it will be the tallest Christian church in the world.
