The Fungi World (370) : Dewdrop Dapperling

Dewdrop dapperling is a striking fungus that is often covered with dew-like drops.

These dewdrops are the result of a guttation process(°), which is very typical for this species.

It’s a rare fungus that is classified as critically endangered on the “Red List of vulnerable and threatened species” !

Dutch name : Druppelparasolzwam
German name : Schwarzfleckender Schmierschirmling (auch Schleimiger Schirmpilz genannt)
Latin name : Chamaemyces fracidus

(°) guttation process : the mycelium (= the basic ‘root’ of a fungus) withdraws sap out of the host tree, forms a dewdrop-like liquid that contains mainly sugars and sweat out the surplus through the fruiting body.
