The Living Forest (93) : European Elder
In autumn, the European Elder produces dark purple to black berries (only 3 to 5mm diameter) in drooping clusters.
They are an important food for many fruit-eating birds, notably Blackcaps.
Dutch name : Gewone Vlier
German name : Schwarze Holunder
Latin name : Sambucus nigra
