turkey vulture
Canon EOS Rebel XT, 1/1250, f4.0, iso 200, Canon 70-200mm at 200mm.
I saw these turkey vultures tanning their wings at Gerstle Cove, Salt Point State Park, Sonoma California. They were more than 200 yards away and even with 200mm zoom i couldnt see a lot of details. I had to get closer! After crawling through the tall grass and crumbling down the slippery bluff, I ducked behind a rock thats no bigger than an ottoman, peaking at the birds. They could see me. Every time i peaked and raised my camera they turned their heads and folded up the wings. I waited and waited until they finally came to realize that i probably couldnt fly and posted no danger to them.
