Winter Trees at Sunset - No. 1

A short drive to the nearby rural byways around the town of Clifton, Virginia. It was late in the afternoon, and the
sun was already too low in the sky to suggest any interesting motifs for the black and white film I was shooting.

Until I paid some attention to the sky!

I love shooting winter-bare trees. Sometimes with their complex tentacled forms silhouetted in
telephoto-compressed perspective against geometrical forms of soaring office or hotel towers
in New York or Chicago…always against the fiery postlude of a glorious winter sunset.
Contrails from passing jetliners, brilliantly illuminated by the low angle of the sun? Bring ‘em on!

The photograph was made on Kodak BW400CN film in my
Nikon FA through a Nikkor 85 mm f/1.4 lens with #29 dark red filter.

Your photo "....not quite winter" I commented with "Do you know, Steve, that your photo "...not quite winter" inspired me in doing a similar work while enjoying a "Tribeca moment" in Friedberg? We have already talked about it in FB. This - my - photo only does exist because I admired your photo and then experienced my personal "must have"-moment. And "Burg Friedberg (2)" now is the result of my longing. Thanks, Mr. Ember, for being my "muse" :-)".

Additionally, I have to mention, that this photo "Winter trees...." inspired me to look out for comparable skies. And I found what I was looking for in Bad Nauheim :-). My result is my pic "Line Traffic". Again you have been my "muse", Mr. Ember :-)
