“Until the age of 20, I had no clue about photography and how it can change the way of seeing. For me, a camera was just a piece of plastic. And photographs were sheets of paper that I did not appreciate the way I do today, no matter whether they are crap or masterpieces.

Then my grandma gave me an old Zeiss Super Ikonta 531 manufactured shortly after WW II. It is a 6×9 folder that can be folded up flat into a small package in order to fit in this cool vintage leather case. On the inside of the case, there was a table with aperture values for different subjects and weather conditions. f/4 for a cloudy bright day and shaded subjects… I had no idea.
This Zeiss camera began to raise my interest in photography and I bought my first Canon film SLR. In the years that followed, I took my camera with me as often as I could. Now, a few devices later and beyond the age of 30, photography has taken a prominent place in my life.

The photographer Dorothea Lange once said ‘The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.‘. It turned out to be true for me. I developed a passion for capturing minimalist subjects, clear shapes and high contrasts. I don’t need aperture tables anymore and my cameras are digital and not made of plastic anymore. Despite, after years of constant learning, I cannot help feeling that I am still at the beginning…”
