A Long Way Down
…or should I say a long way up?
Truth is, I don’t remember in which direction the boat was moving when I took the picture, but what I can tell you is the rushing waterfall is not about to flood the little boat! It will continue its downward cascade, behind the trees, into a stream (**) that flows directly into Lake Como.
The setting is the very steep lakeside village of Nesso (*) on the shore of Lago di Como in Lombardy. Cobblestone ways lead down from where a main road enters Nesso, and they, too, are very steep.
Thus, if one lives at a higher elevation of Nesso, owns a boat, and wants to go out on the lake, the winch – and a very long cable – comes in very handy, being the most direct line between two points! And, yes, it is a long way down – or up – from this gentleman’s boat house, as this is a very deep canyon.

Even after reading the text, I can't make head or tail of this photo. The boat seems to float in mid air...Thomas Reitzel 26/05/2016 0:03
Impressive the motifs you found aside some obscure little backroads in the backwoods, impressing the location!Br, Tom
