A Treetops View from Midtown Belvedere - A Baltimore Impression
The view is toward downtown, past the spire of the First and Franklin Presbyterian Church
on West Madison Street, as seen from the fifth floor of the Symphony Center parking garage.
Midtown Belvedere is a section of Baltimore lying to the north of Mount Vernon, site of the
Washington Monument (*). It gets half of its name from a splendid landmark Beaux Arts
building from the turn of the 20th century.
The Belvedere, once one of the city's grande dame hotels - It was the Sheraton Belvedere
when I was young - later was converted to condominiums. It's not seen here, as it is
just a bit to the east (left) of the area pictured, but I'll include it soon in another view.
Like Mount Vernon, Midtown Belvedere is also culturally vibrant with venues including the
Lyric Opera and the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall (**), home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
