swan haven - the resting place
on marsh lake - part of the mighty yukon river
just south of whitehorse.
more than two thousand swans, trumpeter and tundra,
have been counted on various april days.
( and numerous other types of birds join them )
it keeps the bird counters very! busy ... ;-))

This image reminds me of a famous Russian ballet "The swan lake".
If someone had gone to the theater instead of staying in the button room dreaming of glory...
But tell me: do they migrate to the South in winter and return in springtime, or are they settled in this area all time?

  they just hang out at swan haven for a very few days
  until the waters to the north thaw out -
  we see them flying north over whitehorse in april and may
  as they go somewhere? to nest.
  then we see them heading south in september and october, usually high in the sky.
  but sometimes they stop in town for dinner going either way
  but only in small groups ...
