Bernina Express, Landwasser Viadukt

With a date like 10-10-10, I suppose luck just had to be on my side...

Actually, I'm guessing Mother Nature, being the traditional ol' gal that she is, just had to be a fan of
Kodachrome, and thus supportive of my plan to give my last 10 rolls of K-25 the very best motifs I could,
as the end of the Kodachrome era approached.

Around that goal was this trip to my beloved Swiss Alps planned. Of course, digital, and film photography with other 'chromes as well as B/W took place, but the Kodachrome was, might I say, the Guest of Honor.

On this, yet another photo-perfect early autumn day in my visit, the late afternoon sun warmly paints the magnificent Landwasser Viadukt and the village of Schmitten rising behind it, as well as the towering Alps just beyond.

My perch high above the Landwasser allowed for a rewarding couple of hours shooting the
bright red trains of the Rhätische Bahn on the Albula Line linking Chur with
St Moritz and other destinations in the Engadin and beyond into the Bernina Alps.

In this Kodachrome, the Bernina Express is returning from its journey that began in Tirano, Italy and carried it through the steep transitions of the Bernina Range through Pontresina and Samedan, thence into the Albula region.

It has just emerged from the tunnel high in the sheer rock-face onto the Landwasser Viadukt. Between here and Chur, the passengers in its panoramic-view carriages will be treated to yet another type of Alpine splendor in the wildromantisch world of the Albula Line.

The scene was captured on K-25 in my trusty EOS-1 with 28-80mm
L-Series lens with polarizer, at its full-wide 28mm setting.

The image is available in archival gallery prints and as a custom printed Photo Note Card.
