Between Earth and Heaven 2
Greece
Region of Thessaly. Central Greece- Thessalic Plain,
Meteora (For more information please refer to previous photo in the gallery. Thank you very much).
This is a detail from the previous picture showing the Roussanou monastery at the bottom of the rock founded around 1545. It suffered serious damage during the last war and later repaired by the archaeological service and presently houses a small community of just 13 nuns. The nuns are considered more hospitable than their male counterparts in Meteora welcoming guests and offering them home made sweets. The monastery stands on a relatively to the others low rock and is accessible by a bridge of wood built in 1880 and reinforced with more solid materials in 1930. It covers the entire surface of the rock and its location is dramatic with the rock dropping off sharply on all sides and another rock skyrocketing by side.
(Photography with Mamiya AFD 645 (Phase One) with 6x4,5 digital back DM22.Coloured converted to monochrome).

alexander, i visited meteora in ´87 with my motorcycle. still remember that almost unnatural stone formations raising up in the sky. your B/W interpretation makes it look almost dramatic! very impressive. warmest regards, uwealexander stefanatos 12/09/2015 9:33
Take a handful of sand, dear Sabine, and then open your fingers and let the sand drop..If ,finaly, a single particle is left behind this may be mankind against nature...Cameraqueen 12/09/2015 8:12
An awesome picture of a special place. Incredible how the monastery leans against this giant rock. Also a meaningful image. Rises the question: what is mankind against nature?Cheers, Sabine

Excellent tones and details in that great rock and the sky. The contrast is superb and adds to the feeling of permanence here. It is amazing where people will build for safety.:))
