There was already a castle on this place in the 11th. century, but the present castle was built around 1550.

It’s a very fine example of Mosan Renaissance style with a wonderful checkerboard facade of brown and light grey stones, unique in the world !

it's beautiful!!! the checker-board pattern makes the building look light and airy – literally "dressed-up" – rather than bulky and gloomy! beautiful shot of it, too, with the "carefree clouds" and the pretty bridge in view! and a great scenic place to visit on a sightseeing tour, i bet! greetings, sabine.
