Chachnou-Arbouse-Strawberry tree
Chachnou (also spelled sheshnou) is the Moroccan Arabic word for the fruit of the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo). In Morocco, the fruit may also be called bukhannou, sasnou, asasnou, or wasasnou, as well as by its French name, arbouse.
Strawberry trees are found in the mountainous regions of Morocco near Marrakech, Fes, Tangier and Tetouan. In the fall, the small fruits begin changing color from white to yellow to orange and finally to red, which indicates ripeness. The interior of the fruit is a yellow-orange color.
