F Train Enters Fourth Avenue/Ninth Street Station
[For best viewing, please expand, then go to F11 Full-Screen.]
A Coney Island-bound F Train slowly makes its way into the elevated portion of the 4th Avenue/
9th Street station on the IND Culver Line, as track maintenance workers see to their work.
The station, in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, serves both F and G trains of the New York City
Subway system on this level. Like the Smith St/9th St station just before it (to the north), this station
is high above neighboring terrain and features several tracks and massive bridges.
Several levels below are the underground tracks on the BMT Fourth Avenue Line,
serving primarily the R Train but also, depending on time of day, certain N, D, and W Trains.
Interestingly, after these two "high" stations, the next stop for the F and G trains, 7th Ave/9th St, is actually higher than the station shown here, but it's underground (!) because of the rising topography of the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.
