Gnarled Trees and Rustic Fence at Golden Hour
"Gnarly Trees and a Rustic Fence at Golden Hour"
I love these gnarled trees on the edge of Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, especially during
golden hour, when the contra-light of the sun nearing the horizon turns the leaves of the trees
beyond into a translucent backdrop that both compliments and contrasts with the rough-hewn
bark of these gnarly old guys and the rustic wooden fences.
It was on a couple of days in early June that I did some late afternoon shooting here, to try out my newly-
acquired Contax AX with some Fujichrome Velvia-50 color slide film, my favorite such film for landscapes.
I loved the results, but the graphism of the "gnarly" trees, combined with those rustic fences
and the effects of the contra-light, also suggested this toned black and white treatment.
