Great Falls Impression No.1
The massive flow of rushing rapids on this spring afternoon is only "suggested," as the focus in this
telephoto composition is on the contra-lighted trees growing out of the rocky landscape above the
wide expanse of the Potomac River on the Maryland side of Great Falls.
But, if you "listen," you'll certainly hear the roar as the rapids thunder toward the falls.
The Great Falls Overlook Trail, after winding through the spring-pastel-hued woods (*),
leads to a viewing platform high above the rocky gorge of the river between Maryland and Virginia..
This impression was created on Fujichrome Velvia-50 transparency film, shot through a
Yashica ML 135mm f/2.8 lens, set at a wide aperture for selective focus, on a Contax 137MD.
