Greylag goose

The Greylag Goose is the largest of wild goose native to Europe.

The natural habitat of this beautiful bird consists of a variety of wetlands including marshes, lakes, damp heather moors and low-lying grassy fields in river valleys.

Greylag Geese are primarily grazing birds but also grain, root crops and leafy vegetation are part of their food.

German name : Graugans
Latin name : Anser anser

    : )))) beautiful capture of the goose in mid-walk! love the detail of her muddy foot and "busy" and curious look! and she sure "picked" a pretty place for her "walk"! hamburg's down-town geese are actually pretty amazing. even though you'd think the "außenalster" would offer them an idyllic refuge, they seem to prefer the loudest and busiest down-town places. they stay throughout the winter, and sometimes you can see groups of 7 to 10 animals that sit and graze on a small spot of lawn that's right in between two busy roads! greeting, sabine.
