Homestead

"The house still stood upon the lonely hill
as I remembered it from long ago.
But now like some forlorn, unwanted waif,
it drooped dejected, and irresolute,
before the buffeting of prairie winds.
The hollow windows stared like sightless eyes
across the years of pestilence and drought...
The house is dark, and faceless shadows sway
in rooms where only memories remain.
No welcome voice cries from the open door,
but from the haunting years of yesterday
a plaintive piper's melancholy call;
nostalgic notes of unalloyed lament
that linger in the lonely heart of man
like fragrance of a half-remembered spring."

    der Blick in ein Westernmärchen, man wartet förmlich, dass die Glorreichen Sieben um die Ecke reiten

    a picture that to me beautifully illustrates how memory and association often works: the eyes/thoughts catch on something, a fleeting image – the homestead – and the mind lingers on it, scans it, finds it firmly rooted in the ground, so full of things one longs to take out but dares to touch, to wake… so the mind moves on, inexplicably urged on, striving towards the sun, the promise, the future – the strip of yellow in the back. before i get pathetically pathetic: great shot!! ; )) greetings, sabine.
