The second holiest -after Mount Athos- site of Orthodoxy in Greece. Monasteries, dating from Byzantine era, resist to time and fierce physical phenomena perched on high and steep rocks. Till mid 50ties accession in most of them was only by means of solid nets lifted up by hands with primitive machines.... They are loaded with frescoes and mosaics.Byzantine emperors are known to have completed their lifespan in them.
