Joint Strike Fighter
The Lockheed-Martin F-35A Lightning II (better known as Joint Strike Fighter) is supposed to become NATO's backbone. The Netherlands is about to purchase some 85 of these fighter-bombers, an investment of billions.
Well, one can question this investment. Of course military pilots would like to play around with state-of-the-art technology. But, do we really need it? In my view this aircraft is without a doubt capable, but not suitable to our needs. It's supposed to be a 'stealthy' plane, in other words invisible to radar and infrared. That's what you need when you want to start a war, using the element of suprise. I don't see The Netherlands starting a war, but I do see our country trying to prove to the United States that we are the 'best boy in their classroom', something I firmly disapprove of.
In my recollection it's the first time that a nation takes part in a project, pumping its own technology into it... and pay huge sums of money to get accepted into that project. The world upside down, don't you think...
Anyway, this is how the plane looks like. Gruss, Peter
