Malacca's Portuguese settlement
The territory of Malacca was for 130 years (1511-1641) a Portuguese territory.
It was a portuguese port in a hostile region as it was surrounded by many emerging Muslim states. Also has to bear a Chinese military retaliation agains Portugal. Later was conquered by the Dutch.
Till our days there is a Portuguese speaking and ethnic community preserving the portuguese living art and culture. They celebrate the religious type of feasts specialy the one dedicated to protect fishermen and help for a good catch.
They speak a kind of portuguese Crioulo and on the main square of the St. John settlement you find the Malacca's Heritage museum and many restaurants and bars serving portuguese food and even original drinks.
