NOT a Model Railroad...

...but a worthy inspiration for one, I thought, while viewing this Nahe Valley scene
through a very long telephoto lens from atop the Rotenfels in Germany.

The road and the railroad must share a rather narrow strip of real estate
between the Nahe River and the soaring craggy mass of the Rotenfels.

The bright red diesel multiple unit trains of the Deutsche Bahn's Nahe line
add a lively splash of color to the deep blue of the Nahe River and the
earth tones of the winter landscape along this scenic stretch of railroad.

This was one of many scenes captured during my first visit to the Nahe region
with fellow F-C photographer Thomas Reitzel. Thanks, Tom, for introducing
me to this superb vantage point and these wonderful landscapes.

Another D-B and Nahe view from atop the Rotenfels...
much closer at hand, and benefiting from sharper visibility

nice... it does look like a model railroad... makes me wonder what is inside the houses...

what a great view and vantage point! and what an intimate "relationship" between road, railroad, and the houses "trapped" in between! must feel quite weird to have cars rushing by all day outside your kitchen window and trains joining you at the living room side ; ))! but it i guess, you get used to it after a while… love how everything looks so crisp and blue from up above, like a cold but beautiful winter's day! amazing long shadows, too – i particularly like those of the cars! and the train tracks, street paint, and those beige slopes and terraces on the left – seem to form an abstract "pattern of lines"! greetings, sabine.
