NYC Time Travel - No.1

One might be tempted to ask: Where is this?
Perhaps a better question: When was this?

If anything therapeutic can be derived from our current state of social isolation...
for me, it has been the chance to do some "time-travel" via re-discovered filmic
moments. And a favorite destination has been New York City.

This is how the Fifth Avenue skyline along the southeast corner of Central Park
looked to a very young photographer on his first solo visit to the city in 1963.

The building with the broad mansard roof and two chimneys was the
Savoy Plaza Hotel at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and E 59th St.

Not long after after I took this photo, that majestic structure would meet the wrecking ball,
after occupying her spot in Midtown Manhattan for less than forty years, to be replaced by
the '60s-modern form of the 50 story General Motors Building.

This black and white rendition was created from the original "High Speed Ektachrome" transparency.

      Hi Steve,

I'm fine - our German federal government is doing a good job. Hope you are well too - your Governor is also doing an excellent job.

      Best greetings and take care!

      Ronald

      Hi Ronald,
Good to know your government is doing a good job in this crisis. I was impressed by the television addresses given by Chancellor Merkel. So far, doing OK here. It will be nice to return to NYC once the city is past the wretched times it has had to endure with this virus and one can once again travel without concerns. Meantime, lots of experiences to "re-enjoy" with yet un-edited photos during this social isolation ;-)
      All best,
      Steve

Really cool! Ladies with hats, young girls with bobby socks, people just relaxing in the park - without trying to "make a statement". The building tops have wonderful detail Steve, and tree on the right is perfect. That kid took a nice picture...

Thanks so much, Vinxi - you made the "kid's" day! And yes, memories of such times remind one of all we've lost. Not always glad to have so many miles on the odometer, but always happy to have experienced such times, enjoying them so fully!
      Cheers,
      Steve
