One of the old cog Steam Engines.....
.....these mountain mules were some of the first cog style steam engines that took passengers up to Pikes Peak from Manitou Springs Colorado, they did not turn around, they used the cog system and the engines breaks to back down the mountain.....
Thanks for stopping by, here is a tune from John Denver "home again"

it seems a miniature!! marvelous , dear Denñiisarchiek 10/03/2015 4:49
The rails were too slippery on the steep tracks up the mountain so the cogs were used. I took the train to the top of Pikes Peak about 10 years ago. It is a fun ride.Regards,
Archie

Looking like a regular steam engine, and I love how they have built it to stay horizontal as it climbs the slope. There is a similar train in Bergen, Norway called the Floibanen.... a great trip to take even though it is only short.

clever inventions of the day .... and must havebeen fun to take this little train - if it weren't for
all the surroundings it could be a toy with these
bright colours :-))
