Preventori d'Aigües, the old hotel
The Preventori d'Aigües or Balneari d'Aigües (Valencian) or Preventorio de Aguas de Busot or Balneario de Aguas de Busot (Spanish) is a former hotel, thermal bath and later sanatorium. In 1989 the municipality of Aigües auctioned the buildings. The company Prognosis from Madrid was established with the intention of setting up a retirement facility with thermal baths. However, as the company abandoned the building, it fell into dispute with the municipality of Aigües.
In 2006, the builder Valentín Botella, the president of the football club Hércules Alicante, bought the building. Many parts of the main building show traces of vandalism. At the beginning of the 21st century the roof-chair burnt out. The temporary owners dismantled several outbuildings and the chapel built in the 19th century for the spa guests. The swimming pool was also poured.
According to press reports, the new owner apparently plans to build a complex of luxury apartments on the grounds.
