Purple Hellebore

Hellebore shows its flowers always very early in the year (january till march).

The genus of Helleborus is comprised of 20 different species and belongs to the buttercup family.
The picture shows the purple variant.

All parts of this plant are toxic !

German name : Purpur-Nieswurz
Latin name : Helleborus purpurascens

    i'm already a fan of this flower because of its german name – sneeze root?!? so funny! makes me crinkle my nose just looking at this shot ; )). great picture of a flower that i would never have recognized as typical of late winter and spring, as the shape of its leaves and rich raspberry color of the petals seem to suggest a life in summer… greetings, sabine.
