Looking spiffy (and highly photogenic!) in her special livery, CSX 3099 “Spirit of West Springfield” is on the
point of the railroad’s Safety Train as it rolls through this grade crossing at the Brunswick, Maryland station.

The Safety Train was visiting points along the CSX system on this autumn afternoon;
its purpose is to train first responders to scenes of accidents involving hazardous substances.

3099 is a GE ES44AC-H diesel electric locomotive. She's named for her home base.

Brunswick proudly celebrates its heritage as a railroad town, dating from the early days of the
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. It now serves as a major station on the MARC Brunswick Line,
which carries commuters from points in West Virginia and Maryland into Washington (*).
It is also the location of a CSX rail yard where bunches of diesels
congregate and carry on conversations in rumble-grumble.

The scene was captured on Kodak BW400CN film in my
Nikon FM3A through a Nikkor 35-135 mm lens wearing a red filter.
