Who would have thought that you would suddenly find a Korean pagoda in Scotland?
On my way from Cairnpapple Hill to Cockleroy Hill I passed the Scottish-Korean War Memorial, which commemorates the fallen Scottish soldiers in the Korean War. The typical Scottish weather changed every minute between overcast skies with a cold wind, a brief rain shower and glorious autumnal sunshine. I sat down briefly on a bench at the edge of the forest until the wind and the cooler temperatures in the shade drove me on.

"A brick and tile pagoda set in a woodland area with 110 Korean pine trees (one for every 10 Britons who died in the conflict) on a central mound intended to represent the Ying and Yang of the Korean flag, together with 1090 Birch trees (one for each of the fallen). The names of the fallen are listed on panels which form the side walls of the pagoda. An avenue of a further 21 trees represents the 21 nations involved in the UN force in Korea. There is also a Cairn at the entrance to the site, which is marked by wrought-iron gates flanked by stone supports with top stones resembling pagodas."

Wer hätte gedacht, dass man in Schottland plötzlich eine koreanisch Pagode findet?
Auf meinem Weg vom Cairnpapple Hill zum Cockleroy Hill kam ich am schottisch-koreanischen Kriegsdenkmal vorbei, das and die gefallenen schottischen Soldaten im Koreakrieg erinnert und gedenkt. Das typisch schottische Wetter wechselte im Minutentakt zwischen bedecktem Himmel mit kaltem Wind, einem kurzen Regenschauer und herrlichem, herbstlichen Sonnenschein. Ich setzte mich kurz auf eine Bank am Waldrand bis der Wind und die kühleren Temperaturen im Schatten mich weiter trieben.
