Shrine behind the goddess Devi
Ancient myths and rituals keep the gods alive in Bali, who still determine people's lives today.
They all agree on one thing: a large number of gods inhabit the island, protect it and are close to the inhabitants. The beliefs of over 90% of Bali's residents are based on Hinduism, which is considered an exception in a Muslim-ruled state.
The belief is based on the trinity of the supreme gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and countless other gods and goddesses are worshiped. Where gods there are also demons, who are seen as adversaries of the former and who are stopped by appropriate precautions and prayers.
