São Paulo Ballad 8

São Paulo, you can be so easy to hate.
Your drug-dealers, nabobs, your thugs, and your thieves
But the humble Paulistas, who are fighting their fate
Show some of the best, mankind ever achieves.
I can't love you, São Paulo, you are not my place.
But those people you feed, and those you neglect,
Those people, who give you that fair and foul face,
Have easily conquered my love and respect.

Dive in that ocean, and see what I've found.
A rainbow of humans, of music and life
There are sharks in the water, but pearls on the ground:
People, precious and rare, in their day-by-day strife.
If you come to São Paulo, don't trust in your eyes.
Don't trust in your ears and don't trust what you know.
If you trust in your heart and you heed my advice
Find a soul in São Paulo - though it hides far below…
