St. Peter's Square - Piazza San Pietro
St. Peter's Square is part of the Vatican City. It was built around 1657 in front of St Peter's Basilica. The square has an elliptical shape and is framed by colonades of Doric columns. The colonnades are intended to embrace the faithful in the square. There are 140 statues of saints on the balustrade. The back of the colonnades forms the border of Vatican City.
