Subterranean Swing...

...under Second Avenue, that is.

Here, below the border between New York's Lower East Side and the East Village, a contagiously
festive and nostalgic mood prevails on the Uptown platform of the Second Avenue station of the F Train.

While modern F Trains stop regularly on the outer track, the real attraction on this Sunday afternoon is the New York City Transit Museum's Holiday Train, made up of vintage 1930s-'40s railcars built for the then-new IND Subway system.

And while we wait to ride this special train, there is dancing to Swing music provided by bands taking turns
along the platform - music enjoyed by many "strap-hangers" in vintage apparel, photographers, and Subway
fans (and combinations thereof). And speaking of music, inside the cars one also finds vocalists and ensembles
playing the music that was popular when these trains were new.

And, like a well maintained R1/9 subway car, does a Cole Porter lyric ever lose its style?
