Swamp Hike (18)

Back home again from holiday with a new set of pictures, after exploring nature in bog land and forests during some weeks.

***

This landscape shot shows the swampy peat moors of ‘Hohes Venn’ after heavy rainfall.
‘Hohes Venn’ is the greatest (4500 ha) and oldest National Park of Belgium and the most unique nature biotope in the land.

Due to the local micro climate, ‘Hohes Venn’ is the only (!) place in the world where subalpine vegetation can be found at a height scarcely between 600m and 700m above sealevel.
This means that plants grow and flowers bloom there, that normally only grow just below tree line in mountains like the Alps and Pyrenees.

The whole area is vast and desolate.
It consists mainly of swamps which can only be traversed by using the wooden paths made by the local foresters (a daring exploit).

It is nearly impossible to leave those wooden paths, because the swamp starts immediately to suck your feet and legs into the depth and the more you struggle to get out, the more the swamp sucks……

This makes swamp hiking a unique experience.

Location : Brackvenn (Belgium)

A great landscape photography with a wide view into the depths. Very nice image construction and the reflection of the clouds is beautiful. BW Roland

Mein Lieblingsplatz, Mark !!! DeinFoto ist hinreissend schön, welche Brillianz!
Ich hoffe, du hast auch noch die Kanada-Gänse dort gesehen. Sie hatten vier kleine Gänse, die inzwischen aber schon groß sind.

gives us an idea of how difficult (or rather impossible! ; )) hiking off the trodden (bridged!) paths really is in a swamp land like this!! a beautiful far view and some great cloud reflections on the surface of the water! you and the hohes venn must know each other quite intimately by now, so for this shot – welcome back, hiker mark! – it tried to look its most moist, summery, picturesque best for you! ; ) greetings, sabine.

Das ist einfach ein ganz herrlicher Anblick, und ich kann mir sehr gut vorstellen, dass man da stundenlang wandern kann und sich an dieser Landschaft erfreuen kann.
