    Hi Erik,
    we can do mostly anything nice with small technical equipment. We do not need (always) perfect lenses but we need perfect eyes.
    Albert and John are right, if you would have the right lens.
    In your case, I just would cut out the trees behind the claimer and cut the bottom until the middle.
    I tried to do it and it's come up more 'dramatic' .

    A wide angle would have been great. Unfortunately I only had a 50mm with me, this explains the viewing angle. With the great views in NZ, it was hard to cope with the 50mm only - the camera is a friend's which I borrowed for the NZ-travel. Thanks for the comments guys :).

    If you shoot with a wide angle lense you could of shown more of what was happening and still keep a nice angle, I love to climb, but if you look at all the photos in the mags ther not like this...you need the full view...keep shooting you'll get it!
