  Some parts of southern england, and the midlands - still have a lot of these old black and white "half-timbered" houses.
  They are traditional, vernacular houses - built out of timber.
  They are also called "Tudor style".
  And the black and white effect is often copied in the style of more modern, suburban, city houses.
