The Fungi World (150) : Sessile Earthstar
Late autumn, it’s getting gradually darker and colder in the forest, but there are still fungi growing there.
The party ain’t over yet !
Look what I found : the Sessile Earthstar, a small and weird puffball fungus !
At first, it’s a smooth, egg-shaped ball.
During its growth, the outer tunic splits into a star-like pattern with 5 to 10 arms and in the middle a ball shaped sack containing the spores that are released through an opening in the outer skin.

Beautiful fungus shot!I sent you a message about earthstars, because this one looks also very similar to a collared earthstar, at least according to the images in http://searches.safehomepage.com/search/images?q=Geastrum%20triplex&fcoid=408&fcop=left&fpid=2.
