The Living Forest (103) : Wood Pigeon

The Wood Pigeon is the largest pigeon in Europe and lives mostly in the forest.
In winter however, this bird is often leaving the forest in search of food.

Did you know that its feathers weigh more than its skeleton ?

Dutch name : Houtduif
German name : Ringeltaube
Latin name : Columba palumbus

(shot was taken under soft drizzle)

actually, these members of the "living forest" have taken over our garden. they hatched their chicks in the maple tree in our backyard last year, and they come to our bird feeder now, too. one of them even lands on my outside windowsill sometimes looking in on me while i'm sitting at the computer! actually whenever he does that he's giving me the exact same look as in your beautiful shot – interested and a little surprised! greetings, sabine.
